Back To The Mud

Mostly a frustrating week where we have had the "championship of NH racing" run on fast ground whereas most of the season including Ireland has been run on good to soft or much slower ground. Not surprised there have been so many horses killed. If you ask horses to race at speed on fast ground the chances of fatal injuries are that much greater. The safety experts will stress how much safer it is in case of impact to drive at 20mph in a built up area instead of 30mph. The same applies to jumpers. Thankfully on the flat falls are less common. The higher speeds they achieve there are extremely dangerous to both horse and jockey when falls do occur. No good pointing to the top inch of the track and saying there is give , when it is almost certainly very dry underneath. Just wish these corporate mouthpieces who come up with the line, "the ground is safe" could be put in a machine. Where they could be catapaulted into the ground, from a reasonable height, at a speed in excess of 30mph every time they say it, just to confirm the safety of the ground of course. Might see the drains blocked up then.

Today's action sees a return to the mud. The main race of the day, the John Smith's Midlands Grand National looks exceedingly difficult. So tight is this race, that last night that I felt reluctant to put ratings up at all. Which is why they are up this morning, had nothing to do as the Racing Post had not been delivered yet. With the exception of rare horses such as Young Kenny. The lower weights do have an advantage on testing ground if they are good enough.

Cheltenham Times

Will be doing a review of Cheltenham timewise over the next week and looking ahead to next season. Also looking at why the top-rated horses didn't win. Thanks to the first day they made a level stake profit, ironically without the new races at the festival would have been a very bleak picture.

Ratings Pages

Need to update them, having not done them them since before the Cheltenham Festival, so a job to before the end of the month. Just snowed under. Have got a problem with my software. Therefore unlikely to have anything put up before May.

Links

Apologies, snowed under with about five weeks of ratings to key in. Therefore not going to be dealing with any requests for links in the forseeable future.

Betdaq

Imagine a world where there is only one pub group, where the price of a pint is the same everywhere and could be cheaper. Or only one supermarket chain with only one brand of coffee at a higher price. Would be frightening to me.

You want to back a horse early in the 2.00. Do you ring up the same bookmaker or do you look around to see who is offering the best price? Why then in the world of betting exchanges do you always use the same outlet?

Is it not time that you used another exchange as well and created some competition in the market place? Help to make Betdaq stronger and boost liquidity by putting the odd bet on there regularly. It may not seem like it in the short term but a stronger Betdaq will mean a better market place for all. Now is a good time to start with the Jumps Season proper about to begin.
