Schedule

Cheltenham was not easy this year again. There were plenty of big priced winners. People keep harking back to the days of Arkle believe me it is a lot tougher to win races there nowadays. Michael Dickinson raised the bar, then along came Martin Pipe to put it up another notch. Now Paul Nicholls and Henrietta Knight amongst many are raising the standard that little bit higher. To be successful now the trainer has to be fully professional, paying attention to every detail. It not just about the trainers and getting the horses prepared to the minute. In most contests the jockeys have to ride the perfect race to win. One poor unthinking ride can undo a whole year's preparation. The successful jockey has to have a race plan and have the nerve to stick to it but be adapatable enough to change if circumstances such as a slow pace warrant it. Best Mate had already won two Gold Cups. A third looked there for the taking. The opposition did not lay down and die or not turn up, they just got better. Best Mate had to fight hard to win a third Gold Cup. That is why Jump Racing at the highest level now is great, let's hope it continues.

Thankfully I've ended with a decent profit I hope you did. The next biggie is Aintree, the focus now will be on that meeting in less than two weeks

Will be back on Saturday with some ratings for the Midlands National Meeting at Uttoxeter and Ascot at least. Will be putting up nothing on Sunday as there are plenty of files to update.

Have done a review of the Cheltenham races on the original front pages. If you want to access them just click on the previous link (near top lefthand side).
